help to jump start your change journey
Need help to jump start your change journey? Tired of traveling the same road to change? Insight on the change process and encouragement for the journey.
Let me tell you a little about myself: I have been in the healthcare field for about 16 years now. I worked in a diagnostic lab for years, testing peoples blood and other body fluids, knowing the signs of cancer and other devastating diagnosis, yet I smoked for years (so did my husband)! I would tell myself, well I don’t smoke that much or I never smoked while at work, I didn’t smoke in the house, etc. I was in denial about this bad habit. We both tried to quit numerous time but it would never stick. Finally, February 14, 2012 was quit day for us and we quit smoking for good! We were able to make this positive change to our lives, it was hard for a while but with prayer, perseverance, confidence in each other, thoughts of the future for us and our daughters it has stuck.
Change is hard, there’s no doubt about it. But it can be done! There are ways to make it happen and you should be willing to do it. There will be setbacks, nothing is smooth sailing. My issue with quitting smoking was I didn’t want to gain weight! I always had an exercise routine, but I had to be mindful of what I was eating and what we had in our house. It helped having an accountability partner in my husband.
There are stages we will go through before we even start to make that change and during the change journey. The Transtheoretical Model of Change Theory states that we go through 5 stages in the change process.1

the secret to abundant living
The secret to abundant living isn't really a secret! Are you living an abundant life?
What does living life abundantly mean to you?
Abundantly according to dictionary.com means having an abundance of something. Abundance according to Merriam - Webster dictionary.com means = (1) existing or occurring in large amounts.
2. a marked by great plenty
2. b - amply supplied.
Living abundantly means living a full life. A life full of experiences, full of joy, full of peace, full of love, full of confidence. A rich life. A life that when someone looks at you and sees your actions, they are drawn to you, to even experience it with you! This fullness comes from knowing Jesus and accepting Him in your heart.
Now this life doesn’t mean that it will be trouble free. God has given everyone the ability to make our own choices and every choice we make, good or bad, can affect others. We live in a broken world, look at all those news feeds, there is evil in this world. In John 16:33 (NIV), Jesus says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Abundant living is full of a peace that only Jesus can give, full of God’s love, full of confidence in God, fully trusting Him.
Abundant living doesn’t mean we can do what ever we like! We still should do what is right, no matter how hard. Take the time to serve others with whatever gifts and talents that we have been blessed with. We are blessed and should be a blessing to others. I’m sure you have heard of pay it forward, that is not a new concept.
Luke 6:33 NLT, says “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full--pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back."
I don’t think I should explain that verse! However, we don’t want to give for selfish reasons. “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction.” Gal 6:8 (NIV)
Abundant living doesn’t mean having an abundance of stuff. Lots of money and things never fully satisfies a person, it doesn’t bring automatic happiness and protection from trouble. Luke 12:15 (NIV), says “Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions."
When we are greedy we are focused on ourselves and missing out on living abundantly.
We can experience an abundant life by knowing, trusting and loving Jesus as our Lord and savior. Life is precious, enjoy it by taking care of our bodies. Eat healthy 80% of the time, exercise regularly, serve others, be in communication with each other (and I’m not talking social media). Call someone, go out to lunch with a buddy, have a good laugh!
