Hate, Hate, Hate! Hate is all around us lately and it is hurting us all. Find out what hate really is and what it does to those who are in a state of hate.
Merriam – Webster.com defines hate as 1. intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury 2. extreme dislike or disgust : antipathy, loathing.
Hate is a very strong emotion and in this definition, it comes from fear. Usually when we fear something we are afraid or scared of that thing. When we are afraid or scared of something it shows that we are vulnerable and many people don’t like showing their vulnerability. So, it can be said then that hate can come from not liking the fact that we are afraid or fearful of something, someone, a situation, etc. I hope that didn’t confuse you!
Let’s talk about fear for a minute. Being fearful can cause anxiety, worry, stress, anger, sickness and other negative effects like hate. Living in this negative state can cause harm to our bodies and mind. We are not made to live in this type of negative state. Chronic stress can lead to diseases, like heart disease and make the body susceptible to infections.
Having emotions are a part of being a human being! Love, sadness, happiness, anger, etc. we will feel these from time to time. However, we should not be ruled by our emotions, especially the negative ones. When we let these emotions control us the results can be disastrous.
From the recent events that have been going on in our country you see what anger, fear and vulnerability lead us into…hate.
2Timothy 1:7 (AMP) says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”
You are given the ability to be loving, and have control of your self. When you are being ruled by your emotions you can lose control of your actions easily. When you are angry, hateful and fearful you cannot think logically and do stupid things that can be irreversible and even deadly.
It is ok to be angry, but it is what you do with that anger that can be your downfall. Proverbs has many great verses about anger.
Proverbs 15:18 (ESV) says, “A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.” 29:22 says, “A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression.”
Both these verses tells of the consequences of being quick to anger. When you do get angry you don’t want to sin from it or do something stupid.
Some tips to help when anger strikes:
In the end wisdom rules the day. It is in the middle of emotions and logic. We need emotions to soften us and we can’t be too logical with things because it can cause us to be rigid and inflexible and almost robot like. Wisdom is the best of both worlds! It has a little bit of feeling and a little bit of logic mixed in to help guide us to live an abundant life. I recommend reading Proverbs in the Bible there are many words of wisdom for us to live by. If you have anger issues, please get help from a professional counselor.
