Need help to jump start your change journey? Tired of traveling the same road to change? Here's insight on the change process and encouragement for the journey.
Let me tell you a little about myself: I have been in the healthcare field for about 16 years now. I worked in a diagnostic lab for years, testing peoples blood and other body fluids, knowing the signs of cancer and other devastating diagnosis, yet I smoked for years (so did my husband)! I would tell myself, well I don’t smoke that much or I never smoked while at work, I didn’t smoke in the house, etc. I was in denial about this bad habit. We both tried to quit numerous time but it would never stick. Finally, February 14, 2012 was quit day for us and we quit smoking for good! We were able to make this positive change to our lives, it was hard for a while but with prayer, perseverance, confidence in each other, thoughts of the future for us and our daughters it has stuck.
Change is hard, there’s no doubt about it. But it can be done! There are ways to make it happen and you should be willing to do it. There will be setbacks, nothing is smooth sailing. My issue with quitting smoking was I didn’t want to gain weight! I always had an exercise routine, but I had to be mindful of what I was eating and what we had in our house. It helped having an accountability partner in my husband.
There are stages we will go through before we even start to make that change and during the change journey. The Transtheoretical Model of Change Theory states that we go through 5 stages in the change process.
Like Lydia, Visions Coach, stated in the Activate Your Vision post, Step one to activating your vision is to write it down. First step in making the change is to write down what changes you want to make. I have a free change journey worksheet for you to down load to help with your change process. It has questions and statements that will help to kick start your change journey. I believe in you! Some strengths of successful changers are: Active, brave, faithful, intelligent, patient, strong, unique and willing. I’m sure these are some of your strengths
